Free Drawing School Online led by Kirsty McKeown

Join the Free Drawing School live online every Monday at 10am.

A different drawing challenge is announced each week for you to get involved with at home between 10am-12pm guided live with artist Kirsty McKeown.

The Free Drawing School Online continues over the summer with many more challenges as we invite lots of guest artists to design the weekly challenge for you to join in with.

The Free Drawing School challenges are designed to be done at home with the resources you can bring together from your drawers and cupboards.

Details
The details of the challenge will be announced here and on social media at 10.00am.

You will have two hours in which to complete the challenge and post your work either in the comments on the Facebook event for others to see or on twitter or instagram with the hashtag #freedrawingschool.

You can also email your outcomes to volunteer@hospitalfield.org.uk

The Free Drawing School is made possible with generous funding support from The Robertson Trust and The National Heritage Lottery Fund.

Monday 28 September: Tiny View Finders

“Hi everybody,

Kirsty here with another drawing challenge.

On Monday the 28th we will be using small viewfinders to find and draw tiny snippets of the world around us.

Ideally, this would be outside in the garden or park where you can draw natural objects but you can draw anything if you don’t have access to those places.

The materials you will need are:

Paper (any size, any colour)
Drawing materials (pencils, pens, inks, paint…whatever you enjoy using)
Viewfinder(s).

There are instructions at the end of the video on how to make a viewfinder and it can be done in advance or left until Monday morning.

I’ll see you all on Monday morning as usual with more instructions.

Kirsty”

Instructions for Tiny Viewfinders

Tiny Viewfinders by Kirsty McKeown

“Hi everybody.  It’s Kirsty here, back with another Free Drawing School drawing challenge.

Today we will make viewfinders and use them to find and draw tiny snippets of the world around us.  Ideally, this would be outside in the garden or park where you can draw natural objects but you can draw anything or any space you have access to.

The materials you will need are:

  • Paper (any size, any colour)
  • Drawing materials (pencils, pens, inks, paint…whatever you enjoy using)
  • Viewfinder(s)

There are instructions after my video introduction on how to make a viewfinder, it only takes a few minutes to make.

  • Move your viewfinder around and focus your eye on what you see through the window.
  • Zoom in and out of objects, you will notice that your eye can focus on pattern, shape and other interesting details when it has less information to distract it.
  • Draw the small sections you see through the view finder. You can draw these bigger or smaller than reality in any materials you like using.

I’m looking forward to seeing your drawings.”
