Echo in the Dark: Bat Recording Equipment Lending Library

10:00am-4:30pm, 24 September–30 November 2021

Bat Recording Equipment Lending Library

24 September – 29 October 2021

10.00am – 4.30pm, Monday to Friday

For the development of her new work, artist Hanna Tuulikki is tuning into more-than-human rhythms and frequencies, to explore the interconnections of bat echolocation and dance music as a model for ecological coexistence. She is beginning to gather an archive of recordings to be made into a public library of sounds, some of which are featured below. From these, Hanna plans to compose a new piece of music that will feature in a performance event next year in Arbroath’s Hospitalfield, as part of their 2022 art programme.

Hanna is currently looking for recordings of UK bat species made in a variety of ways, from heterodyne to time expansion and direct sampling.

The bat recording lending library will be available to hire recording modules from Friday 24 September to Friday 29 October. The lending library is based at Hospitalfield, Westway, Arbroath DD11 2NH and open for borrowing and returns 10am – 4.30pm, Mon – Fri until Friday 29 October 2021.

Equipment and places are limited, please sign up early to avoid disappointment. Recording is suitable for all ages but you must be accompanied by an adult to borrow the equipment.

By submitting your recording to Echo In The Dark, you are providing the artist Hanna Tuulikki permissions to use your recording as part of the development and outcomes of the public art work Echo In The Dark.
