Some Small Acts of Respair: Luke Pell

Inspired by the obsolete word respair, meaning the return of hope after a period of despair, artist Luke Pell, Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust (THAT) and Hospitalfield invite people experiencing long term health conditions to participate in eight weekly workshops where you will explore playing with words, drawings, collages, poems, images and new writing to create your own artworks. At each weekly coffee morning we will come together to talk, share stories and ideas.

By the end of the eight weeks, participants will work with Luke to bring what they have created together as a small collection, either in the form of a podcast and/or print publication.

Luke Pell, is an artist based in Edinburgh who collaborates with people and places, working across forms to imagine alternative contexts for performance, participation and discourse that might reveal wisdoms for living. Maker, curator, dramaturg, and writer. Luke’s work has been presented throughout the UK and internationally. Luke is an Associate Artist with Fevered Sleep and Dance Base, Scotland and also creates work with Lucy Cash through their collaborative enquiry Phos. Hospitalfield have commissioned Luke to develop a new work to be presented at Hospitalfield in 2021-22.

This project is one part of a commission for Luke Pell by Hospitalfield in order to develop ideas for new work to be presented with Hospitalfield in the 2021-2 Programme.

Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust (THAT) delivers Creative Engagement programme opportunities for people living with Long Term Health Conditions (LTC’s) across Tayside. We provide access to the arts and promote the positive health improvements that participating in the arts can bring.
