History & Heritage

Help care for our collections and share knowledge and a passion for Hospitalfield with the public as a tour guide.

Collections Care

This important activity at Hospitalfield and an interesting way to get to know our historic house and collections intimately. The volunteer Collections Care Group meet weekly on Friday mornings with General Manager Scott Byrne, assisting with photographing, cataloging and storing our historic collections of objects, furniture and paintings.

Tour Guides

We have excellent volunteer tour guides who have an astonishing amount of knowledge about the history of the estate, helping us research into our archives and deliver tours to a variety of visitors year round.

Being a tour guide at Hospitalfield is a great way to get to know more about Hospitalfield’s history and current activity, sharing that with people who come to visit us. New tour guides work with the staff and tour guides to learn the tour script and develop their own specific twist on our popular tours.

“Hospitalfield House is an asset to Arbroath and as such deserves to be looked after and cherished. Volunteering enables me to play my part.”

“I’ve particularly enjoyed the opportunity to speak to visitors about the history of Hospitalfield and introduce them to artists and craftsmen they’ve probably never heard of. Many of them leave amazed at what they’ve seen and local people visiting for the first time are generally astonished that such a place exists in Arbroath.”
