Commissions

MARK BLEAKLEY & KATIE MILLER

In summer 2019, dance artists Mark Bleakley & Katie Miller led 500 children from Timmergreens and Muirfield Primary Schools in Arbroath, in the Annual Children’s Graduation Procession. The Procession began at Timmergreens and included 4 performances along the route.

RACHEL ADAMS

Rachel Adams has been commissioned to create the 2019 Sculpture at Hospitalfield. Sited in the Paddock just outside the walled garden with a clear view to the sea, her art work ‘Hothouse’ is a blue intrusion to the surrounding pastoral and residential landscape, creating an uncanny and dystopic vision of nature, farming and the machine.

SARAH FORREST

For the Autumn Season Open Weekend 2019 at Hospitalfield, Sarah Forrest was commissioned to make a new moving-image and performance work titled The Unreliable Narrator.

SEKAI MACHACHE

In 2019, Hospitalfield and the Friends Members commissioned Dundee-based artist Sekai Machache to create an etching for the Friends Edition. Those joining as Friends of Hospitalfield in 2019 receive one of these limited edition prints upon completion in Autumn 2019.

SARAH ROSE

In 2018 artist Sarah Rose was invited to participate in the first residency developed by Hospitalfield with funding from Paths For All. The Meander Walking Programme, focusses on walking, picking, cooking and eating. These starting points provide a framework that gives a particular intention to our walking programme, linking walking to gathering, harvesting and health. The cooking processes are often traditional; preserving, bottling, fermenting, pickling, distilling, salting, all processes that allows us to keep food for longer.

SUSANNAH STARK & HUSSEIN MITHA

Susannah Stark and Hussein Mitha collaborated on a new sound and light work entitled ‘Correspondences’ for the Summer Open Weekend 2019 Ways of Living. This new work was supported by The Elephant Trust.

VANESSA DA SILVA

Vanessa da Silva made a new textile installation titled ‘Vertical Zen’ in the Studios at Hospitalfield for the Ways of Living – Summer Festival Open Weekend 2019.

MARY REDMOND

Mary Redmond was commissioned to make a sculptural installation in Hospitalfield’s Walled Garden entitled The Venny, The Jumps, which launched during our Spring Season open weekend, SPLIT/DIVIDE. As our first semi-permanent artwork, it was on show all summer until the end of September.

FRANCE-LISE MCGURN

France-Lise McGurn was commissioned to make a whole-room painting, entitled ‘Extensa Suite’, which launched at the Summer Festival Open Weekend 2018, SCRIPT. It will remain in the Study Room for audiences and artists in residence to experience throughout the year.

NEIL BICKERTON

We have commissioned artist Neil Bickerton to work with us on the programme for our Autumn Season in 2018.
