We are so pleased to be showing Emma Hart Big Time, a series of four sculptures inspired by sundials – the use of light and shadow combined with the movement of the earth to mark out time. Evidence of sundials have been found in Egypt as early as 1500BC and the fascination has persisted over centuries. The 19th century is no different and at Hospitalfield House and the Mortuary Chapel the stone carved sundials might be more decorative than entirely accurate. Here we think that the artist Patrick Allan Fraser, in his designs for the sundials, was alluding to a more poetic or perhaps essentialist notion of Light & Time.

The Trust wishes to appoint a collections curator who can work with us to upgrade the standards of collection care and to help plan for the future in a way that increases access and engagement with the heritage and collections at Hospitalfield. You will work closely with the staff team, the design teams for the project, our volunteers and programme development strategy as we reach RIBA stage 3 detailed design for Phase 4 of our capital programme.
