Ian Hamilton Finlay (1925 – 2006) was an artist best known for his work in sculpture and poetry whose works are held in major collections and more than fifty of his installations can be seen in public places.
Set in the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh, Little Sparta is Ian Hamilton Finlay’s greatest work of art. Imbued with a high idea content, the garden is created from the artistic fusion of poetic and sculptural elements with those of the natural landscape which is shaped and changed to become an inherent part of the concepts realised at Little Sparta.
Join the Friends of Hospitalfield for a memorable and absorbing visit to this artists garden. The trip will directly follow the Friends of Hospitalfield Collection Visit to the home of Susanna Beaumont in Edinburgh.
Travel details: We will travel by minibus departing Hospitalfield at 9am and returning for 5.30pm approx.
Cost: £20 per person. The costs include entry and guided access to Little Sparta and a contribution to travel costs. Payment can either be made by cash or cheque on departure
Friends of Hospitalfield who are based near Edinburgh and wish to travel independently are very welcome to attend the visit as part of the group. Please get in touch with Scott Byrne at firstname.lastname@example.org to establish arrangements to meet on the day
