25 April 2017
Joyce Cairns studied painting at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen between 1966 and 71 and came to Hospitalfield during this time in 1969. After going on to postgraduate study at the Royal College of Art and Goldsmiths for her Art Teacher’s Certificate Course she returned to Aberdeen and taught there until 2004. Her work stems mainly from autobiographical sources including considerations of her father’s wartime experiences.
On 25 April, Friends of Hospitalfield will have the special opportunity to visit Joyce Cairns at her home to see highlights from her personal art collection. Joyce will discuss her approach and experience to collecting art and will offer the chance to see some of her personal collection highlights through the visit.
Friends of Hospitalfield will meet at the entrance to the Royal Tay Yacht Club (RTYC) in Broughty Ferry at 11am – we can then walk the short distance to Joyce’s nearby studio from there. Parking at the RTYC is for members only, however there is plenty of free parking available on the Dundee Road adjacent to the RYTC or on the nearby Ellieslea Road. The Collections Visit should last for about an hour, we will then have the opportunity to enjoy lunch in Broughty Ferry following the visit.
Spaces for this event are limited. Please register your interest in attending this event in advance by contacting Scott at Hospitalfield at firstname.lastname@example.org or 01241 656124
