Visit

Between April and September we run Heritage Tours of the house and gardens at 2pm on Wednesdays. It’s ideal if you can book as we make tea and cake for the end of the tour.

Every Wednesday the cafe is also open between 2 and 5pm with a delicious rage of cakes, tea and coffee.

During the summer and until 24 September we open the walled gardens as part of Scotland’s Garden’s scheme each Saturday between 2 and 5pm. You can buy a slice of cake and a hot drink from the greenhouse.

These regular opening times are in addition to our talks and events series which include our quarterly open weekends. More information is available in our What’s On section.

If you are a group who would like to book in for a tour at another time please do get in touch.

As we move forward with our Future Plan, it’s really helpful to hear feedback about how clearly we communicate our various opening hours, so your input is gratefully received.

How to get here

From Arbroath

On foot from Arbroath Train Station: Walk to the right up Keptie Road past Arbroath College and Keptie Pond. At the end of the road take a quick right then left onto Arbirlot Road and walk past the houses and a row of shops. At the end of the road turn left onto Westway and Hospitalfield’s driveway is the next on the left. This should take about 25 minutes.

By taxi from the town centre: There is a taxi pick up point at Arbroath Train Station and a taxi office just a little further up from the Train Station on the left hand side of the road. Alternatively (or if there are no taxis at the rank) call 01241 430430 or 01241 873107 or 01241 877777 to book one. It should cost about £5 and take 5 minutes.

By bicycle: Arbroath is well served by cycle routes – more information can be found on the Sustrans website.

By bus: There are regular buses from Dundee (the 39 passes the end of our drive on Westway, as does the 73 although it is a longer route) and Aberdeen (X7 to Arbroath Bus Station or Elliot Bridge). Connecting buses to Edinburgh, Glasgow and elsewhere can be caught in Dundee.

By car: From the south, drive north on the A92 from Dundee when you get to the first roundabout after the welcome to Arbroath sign turn left on to the Westway. Hospitalfield is on your right about 200 yards up the hill.

From the north, from Aberdeen take the A90 and then on to the A92. Or the slightly longer route but very scenic along the east coast take the A93 and the B974. Our postcode for SatNav is DD11 2NH.
