Residencies: Working at Hospitalfield Now, 25 July – 30 September

Taha Belal is currently in residence at Hospitalfield until the end of September on the invitation of CCA, Glasgow.

Belal lives and works in Cairo, Egypt, and creates labour-intensive, delicate and spectral artistic interventions. His works retain roughness and errors: smudges, scratches, dirt and fingerprints on items passed through many hands. He works with common, mass-produced, disposable objects, highlighting their construction in a formal investigation of the language and images exchanged in our daily life.

His work has featured in exhibitions at MATHAF – Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha; MKG – Museum fur Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg, Germany and Tartu Art Museum, Tartu, Estonia. He has exhibited at Haines Gallery and Southern Exposure in San Francisco, U.S.A. In Egypt, he has shown his work at Townhouse Gallery and Nile Sunset Annex (which Belal, Jenifer Evans and Hady Aboukamar founded). Nile Sunset Annex is an evolving artist-run production and dispersion outfit for contemporary art.

Belal’s residency is supported by Mophradat, CCA, Glasgow, and also includes a month in residence at Cove Park.
