Hospitalfield are hiring a part time chef for the Spring & Summer Season.
Contract: 6 ½ months
Hours: Part time 25 hours per week
Salary: £17,550 pro-rata (37.5 hours)
Start date: 20/03/18
The kitchen at Hospitalfield serves to host, nurture and nourish all that walk through our front door and great pride is taken in the food that we feed our artist residents, private parties, corporate events, weddings and café customers.
The café serves a simple menu with the emphasis on quality food made with love. We like to produce exceptional soups, organic homemade bread, cakes and some super fresh savoury specials utilising the organically grown vegetables from the garden.
The kitchen works closely with the house gardeners and local suppliers to maximise the use of home grown and local produce. We are lucky enough to have an historic walled vegetable garden which has generated food for the house for 800 hundred years and also a newly erected polytunnel which will allow us to extend the season for many crops.
At the Hospitalfield Open Weekend events the team transforms a space in the house to a one off pop up style eatery environment. Themes and styles of cuisine for each event are always different and serve to display the diversity of food that we enjoy cooking and provide a novelty experience for visitors. The inspiration for this eclectic mix of tastes coming from the kitchen derives partly from the diversity of artist residents that come to stay with us.
The successful candidate will work with the Chef/Catering manager to deliver a varied programme of catering events, as well as running the service in the Saturday café and feeding the artist residents in the absence of the Chef/Catering Manager.
Core shifts will be Friday/Saturday plus other days to help with events. You will be required to work both with and without supervision and will need to be comfortable running the show for periods when the Chef/Catering Manager is on leave.
Flexibility in the role will be key as due to the varying programme of events some weeks you may only need to work 2 days and the next week 4-5 days.
We are looking for someone with good all round cooking experience as you will be producing main meals, sweets, cakes and fresh breads for both the café and event sizes from 10 to 80. An interest in vegetarian food would be useful as this is the predominant style of cuisine that we offer to our guests. Must hold a food hygiene certificate.
This is a great opportunity to work in a unique and inspiring environment and would suit a hard working person with a creative, calm and approachable personality.
