Nick Evans, Victoria Morton and Katie Schwab will make a series of highly functional elements for our new accommodation building – a project devised with Make Works for Hospitalfield’s Future Plan capital development.
As part of our activity for Hospitalfield’s Future Plan capital development we have devised an extended residency project in collaboration with Make Works to commission four artists and designers over the next two years to make a series of highly functional elements for our new accommodation building. Stage One of the Future Plan will include a new ten bedroom accommodation building called The Greens, as well as work on our gardens, glasshouse, fernery and studios. This year we have selected Nick Evans and Victoria Morton to work on lighting and textiles and Katie Schwab will work on furniture for the communal areas in 2017.
In the last four years the contemporary cultural programme here has evolved. Central to our programme are our residencies and residential study programmes and Hospitalfield is a place where people spend a lot of time working: they can be here for a few days or a month or for several months – Hospitalfield becomes their home for this period of time. In order to plan for the future and make the working and living accommodation meet our needs, the staff and board of governors have established a Future Plan. The priorities include improving the existing facilities and making new additions where this is necessary. In 2014 architects Caruso St John were appointed to lead a design team and to develop the solutions to our Future Plan brief.
The Future Plan Collection residencies will involve the artists and designers living and working at Hospitalfield, meeting manufactures, speaking to their fellow residents, the architects and staff and developing prototype objects.
