Full Schedule announced for LOCATION – our Angus Heritage Week programme
Join us on 5 and 6 September to explore the house and gardens and catch talks by the writers, artists and researchers that we have brought together for the programme.
We are pleased to announce the full schedule for LOCATION our Autumn Season open weekend.
Saturday’s subject is Angus Writers and starts with a great workshop devised by poet Andy Jackson, we hope that experienced writers and less experienced writers alike take this opportunity to think through how everyday situations can influence their work. Places are limited so it’s essential to book, more info and booking link here…
The day continues with two presentations about stand out writers from the past: Lisa Simmons will talk about Violet Jacob’s The Wild Geese and Aimee Chalmers will talk about Marion Angus’ life and work in connection to Arbroath. In the afternoon we are delighted to have Jennifer Williams from the Scottish Poetry Library leading Andy Jackson through his Life in Poetry followed by Lisa Simmons in-conversation with James Robertson. Both excellent opportunities for you to also put your questions to these two writers.
In the middle of the Saturday there is a chance to hear PhD researcher Peggy Beardmore speak about her ongoing research with the alumni of Hospitalfield.
On Sunday the theme moves to how artists use writing and how writing interacts with art. The first part of the programme is a pamphlet making workshop – following the model we have for residents which is a two page A4 publication which can be viewed online as well as printed and gives an insight into one period of thinking.
The afternoon talks include a reading of new work from Maria Fusco, Chancellor’s Fellow at Edinburgh College of Art, then we have invited two past residents, the artist Giles Bailey and Jenny Brownrigg, the Exhibitions Director from Glasgow School of Art, to return to Hospitalfield and share their individual approaches to writing. Giles Bailey is talking about his novel based an a post-apocalyptic Kings Cross and Jenny Brownrigg will also launch a new publication.
We are grateful to all our partners for these events – including those who have provided books for sale and for browsing in our reading area.
The format for the weekend really lends itself to a day visit but you are very welcome to stop in for a shorter time. If you would like to attend the talks it would be helpful if you booked a place online – they are free.
